We have a few clubs, from homework club for primary school children to a more specialised club for older students (years 5-7) with rotating subjects every six weeks, including maths and chemistry and for age 11-16 there is a Spanish session now included in the rotation.
These clubs aim to help every child to reach their full potential and provide support to their learning, be it with additional homework support or more specialised studying assistance.
If your child would like to join, or you would like to volunteer, please follow the links below!
Would your child like to join one of the clubs for some homework and studying support?
Would you like to help teach or support one of our homework groups?
We know that the summer holidays can mean children get to spend time socialising with their friends less, so this in summer 2022 we set up the summer holiday club. For 4 hours each week the children were invited to Victoria Park to play and socialise with their friends.
It proved a very popular activity and was delightful for the parents to see their children running around and having fun!
With over 20 children coming to the sessions it was especially popular when Pizza Hut Macclesfield donated Pizza for lunch one session!
Our homework club gives children a warm supportive environment to complete their homework after school.
They can ask for help from volunteers or their peers, practice their reading and work on areas they struggle with free from judgement.
Everyone does so well and it is a pleasure to see how much they accomplish!
These clubs are volunteer led and the subjects are chosen by them. If you have a subject you feel you could lead a session in please come in and let us know!
Maths can be a stumbling block for many children at school, and coming home with maths homework they can't understand can often cause children to give up, believeing they "just aren't good at maths".
We want to help every child feel supported and help improve confidence in maths for all young children!
Saturday Chemistry Club aims to inspire and fascinate budding young scientists.
Girls and women are an underrepresented group in STEM and we want to help change that.
A club for everyone, we don out lab coats and spend an hour experimenting every Saturday morning - maybe your young scientist would like to attend?
Our Saturday Spanish sessions are targeted at high school aged students (11-16 years old) with our volunteer tutor spending half an hour each with two students per week.
New to the program rotation in November 2022 these sessions have proved to be very beneficial for our young linguists!
"Pearls of Cheshire has been a blessing to us and our children. One of the good things about PoC is the fact that it doesn’t only focus on women/grown ups but children are included and a big part of PoC.
My children in particular have benefited from PoC through the tutorial classes it runs for children from Year 5 and above. We have also had the opportunity of meeting new people from other countries and have enjoyed the coffee mornings as well. There are lots of other activities like the sewing class, the after school club, the poetry club etc which have been a big blessing to many. Not to mention the varieties of food from different parts of the world enjoyed at every occasion hosted by PoC.
I will highly recommend PoC to anyone especially someone new to the UK because it is a home away from home."
"I am a single mother of 6 and it has been so hard to keep up with my children’s homework. This made me feel like I wasn’t a good enough mom. When I heard that Pearls of Cheshire was starting a homework club, I was the first one to register my boys. Ever since they started attending homework club, my kids are always up to date with their homework and I feel like a heavy weight has been taken off my shoulders, my stress levels have gone down. I can’t say it enough but homework Club has been amazing for me and my boys. Thank you POC and also not forgetting to mention our lovely Charlene who came to do placement. Charlene, the boys really enjoyed your way of teaching and every time they were due to come, they asked if you’ll be there. Thank you all and see you in October."
